The Beginnings:
The Workshop Unlimited, Inc. was established in 1972 by a group of working artists who responded to a local community's need for a creative arts facility. At the time The Workshop was formed, creative arts instruction was not a formal part of the elementary and secondary school curriculum. Classes offered to adults and children in all art forms, including multi-media, were the most significant part of The Workshop's activities.
Because of the success of the facility, the artists were invited into the schools to lead in-service training for teachers. The training led to the development of programs that encouraged children to discover imaginative ways to explore the creative and performing arts.
Over the next several years, The Workshop's activities shifted from classes offered in the creative arts to development of forums for women artists, where they exchanged ideas on how to deal with commonly encountered problems. The forums enabled artists who had been working in isolation to find support and to contribute to each other's creative process.
Then, in 1985, in order to expand and reach a wider audience, The Workshop began a series of seminars for the business community that utilized the philosophy and techniques proven essential in a creative process, ones that lead to change, growth, personal fulfillment and vitality.
In addition to the conference activities, The Workshop Unlimited, Inc. has received contracts from nonprofit and private sector companies in areas of management consulting, fund raising council and research on retirement and empowerment issues. |
